Touring With An Eye on the Future
 vertical_river_source.jpg

Most of the M.U.S.E. Musicians spend a large part of their life on the road. We know that we have a lot of good to offer, but we also know that by traveling we have an adverse impact on the environment we seek to protect.  There is a growing movement among the mainstream, "big name", musicians to tour in a more sustainable way, but all of us who take to the road need to think about our impacts and try to minimize them.  We at M.U.S.E. offer this page of links, advice, and insights to all of you road warriors who seek a softer path, a way toward a greener future. Please send us your suggestions and we'll share them on this site. Our hope is that the lists below will continue to expand with your input.

 Ideas For Your Next Tour

 Things We Can All Do

1) If possible, drive instead of flying.

2) Try to stay at motels within walking distance of restaurants and the gig.

3) Try to route your tour so there will be a minimum amount of backtracking and miles driven.

4) Keep your tires inflated to the proper air pressure. Keep to the speed limit.  It really does save on the gas.

5) Try to eat at local, non-chain food establishments that feature local and organic foods.

6) While staying at your hotel, let the management know that it is not necessary to change your towels and sheets every day. Turn off the AC/heat, lights and TV when you leave the room.

Things to Suggest to the Promoter

1) Encourage use of carpools, bus systems, and other public transportation to the event

2) Offer ticket discounts to those who walk or bike

3) Specify use of e-tickets

4) Ask them to use 100% recycled paper for posters and tickets and all printing needs.

5) See that any refreshments sold at the concert are local or organically grown

6) Encourage them to avoid using or selling bottled water. Please see the October 18 Music Makes a Difference blog entry.
